Gold Creek School P21 Project Gallery
01 Jun 2010 - The first sod for the new $3m Environmental Centre was turned on 28 May 2010. This photo shows the Minister for Education and Training, Andrew Barr MLA, being enthusiastically assisted by students from Gold Creek Junior Campus.
21 Jun 2010 - Bulk excavation work has been completed. The site has been levelled ready for work to begin on the construction of footings for the building.
25 Jun 2010 - As part of the environmentally sustainable design for the new school, work is underway for an inground tank. The water will be used to service irrigation needs and for toilet flushing.
06 Jul 2010 - The footings for the new building are being poured. The blue foam strip visible around the outside is an insulation layer that will help prevent winter heat loss from the building.
13 Jul 2010 - The footings are completed and hydraulics work is underway. Brickwork for the slab will commence this week subject to the weather.
27 Jul 2010 - The slab for the new building has been poured, and requires a period of curing in order to attain maximum structural strength.
08 Aug 2010 - Hydraulic works are currently being undertaken. Recent rains have not significantly delayed progress and the erection of the steel frame will be the next stage of construction.
25 Aug 2010 - Recent wet weather and a delay in the fabrication of the structural steel frame for the building have caused a slight delay in the work. Structural steel has begun arriving on site today and work will now begin on erection of the frame.
13 Sep 2010 - This image, taken on 6 September 2010, shows that major components of the structural steel frame have been erected. Erection of the external blockwork is about to start.
13 Sep 2010 - Three days after the previous image, blockwork construction of the external walls is underway. The new multipurpose building, which will include three classrooms and a staff office, aims to achieve a six-star Green Star environmental rating and will incorporate a range of passive heating and cooling features. There will be an array of solar panels on the angled roof shown in the photo, and the high vertical framing visible above the roofline will become a thermal chimney with ventilation louvres to help cool the building.
07 Oct 2010 - Work is continuing on the blockwork for the external walls for the new building. Scaffolding is in place ready for upper level work.
19 Jan 2011 - High and low ventilation systems installed to encourage natural cross-ventilation and night-purging to naturally heat/cool the centre
