20 Apr 2010 - Site establishment in progress for the new library

07 Jun 2010 - Hurdles have been put in place for the setting out of the building. As can be seen in the photograph, rainy weather has caused slight delays.

18 Jun 2010 - This photograph taken on 10 June shows the trenching being dug for the footings for the new building.

18 Jun 2010 - Reinforcement has been laid in the trenches and the concrete footings have been poured.

25 Jun 2010 - This image shows the plumbing that has just been installed for the student toilets. More work on inground services needs to take place before construction of the slab begins.

06 Jul 2010 - Steel starter bars have been drilled into the building footings ready for wall construction to begin. These steel rods serve to reinforce the blockwork. The plastic cap on each rod is to protect workers from injuring themselves on the cut rod ends.

26 Jul 2010 - Blockwork is proceeding on the external walls of the new building. The next stage will be the pouring of the slab.

08 Aug 2010 - Formwork and reinforcing mesh have been put in place ready for the concrete slab to be poured.

08 Aug 2010 - Concrete is being pumped into the formwork as the slab for the new library building is poured and levelled.

25 Aug 2010 - Erection of structural steel for the building's frame is underway. When finished, the library building will contain teaching space, reading areas, a conference area, computer room and toilet facilities. It will also feature design features to help make it environmentally sustainable, such as night purging to help maintain the building within a comfortable temperature range.

09 Sep 2010 - The erection of the steel frame for the building is progressing, with roof framing now in place. Work will continue on the erection of blockwork, and the next stage will be the installation of roof insulation and sheeting.

09 Sep 2010 - While the construction of the new library proceeds, work has also taken place to upgrade an old walkway which runs alongside the existing building. Drainage problems have been fixed and dangerous and uneven paving has been lifted and replaced.
