School Improvement Framework publication

School Improvement Framework: Better Schools, Better Futures, Raising Quality and Achieving Excellence in ACT public schools

The School Improvement Framework describes a four-year cycle of school review for public schools . It engages students, teachers and the school community in a process of continuous improvement. The Framework focuses on four key areas: learning and teaching; leading and managing; the student environment; and community involvement. Between 2009 and 2013, public school leaders and school communities will use the framework to reflect on the quality of their practices, identify strategic priorities and embed programs that are effective, challenging and engaging for all students.


Influenza H1N1 (Human Swine Flu) Update

H1N1 Influenza

Cases of a human strain of swine influenza have been reported in the ACT. The ACT has very good systems and procedures in place to detect and respond to outbreaks of communicable disease. The national hotline for the public to receive health information about the outbreak overseas of swine flu is 1802007.

The ACT Department of Health is continuing to liaise with the affected families and their schools on all appropriate action, and the Department of Education and Training (DET) and other school sectors continue to work closely with ACT Health.

Literacy and Numeracy Strategy 2009-2013

Literacy and Numeracy Strategy 2009-2013

This Literacy and Numeracy Strategy 2009-2013 will support the literacy and numeracy learning of all students in ACT public schools and colleges over the next five years. It is based on a clear recognition that quality teaching and quality school leadership make a significant difference to students’ literacy and numeracy outcomes.


New P-10 school for Kambah and Future of Urambi Primary School

New P-10 school for Kambah and Future of Urambi Primary School

In 2006 the ACT Government decided to close Kambah High School and construct a new $54 million state-of-the-art P-10 school on the site.

The Government also committed to consult with the community on the future of Urambi Primary School. The consultation period has begun and will close on 7 August 2009.

Community Information Session: Thursday 25 June 2009 from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Representatives from the Department will be available throughout the afternoon and there will be an opportunity to view plans and be updated as to progress with the design of the new school..
