Step into the Limelight, the Territory’s creative and performing arts showcase event for public schools began in 2007 and has grown to become the largest youth Arts event in the ACT. In 2011 the Gala Performance will move venue to the Royal Theatre allowing greater student involvement and larger audience capacity. More then 1600 students from over 65 public schools from Pre School to Year 12 will work closely with professional artists, tertiary institutions and arts organisations to develop outstanding artistic works for the show. Through Step into the Limelight’s educational programs, thousands of students now have access to gifted and talented learning programs and the opportunity to present their artistic work in a professional environment through the Art Exhibition, Film Festival and Gala Performance. Providing these opportunities saw the Step into the Limelight production rewarded in ACT Children’s Week in 2010 with a Significant Contribution Award. Step into the Limelight uses sponsorship funding to create high quality “arts rich” programs for students. These programs utilise the skills of locally and nationally renowned artists to extend students beyond what they can achieve in the classroom. Depending on the nature of the partnership and the number of students involved, these programs cost between $2000 and $8000 to run.
