Registration

What is the registration process?

How do you commence home education?

Should you decide to home educate your children you must apply for provisional registration for each child.

Provisional registration lasts for six months and provides parents with the opportunity to commence a home education program. It is the precursor to registration.

The manual, Registration of Home Education in the ACT PDF File (336kb) outlines parents' responsibilities in relation to home education under the Act.

Provisional registration

A Provisional Registration Application Form PDF File (43kb) to request commencement of provisional registration is to be forwarded with certified copies of personal documents. Details are provided in the manual. On return of the application form, a certificate for home education will be forwarded to the parents.

Registration

No earlier than three months into the provisional registration period, parents may provide notification in writing of their intention to register their child for home education for a period of up to two years.

The notification will need to be accompanied by the documents required under the conditions for registration. Details are provided in the manual.

Annual report

The parents must give an annual report about each child's educational progress to the Manager, Non-government Education. Reports, due by 31 December of each year, may be forwarded in the final quarter of the year.
