Registration
What is the registration process?
How do you commence home education?
Should you decide to home educate your children you must apply for provisional registration for each child.
Provisional registration lasts for six months and provides parents with the opportunity to commence a home education program. It is the precursor to registration.
The manual, Registration of Home Education in the ACT
(336kb) outlines parents' responsibilities in relation to home education under the Act.
Provisional registration
Provisional registration, of up to six months, enables home educators to:
- develop a home education approach that suits the needs of their child;
- ensure the home education is of a high quality; and
- determine how educational progress will be recorded.
For further information and an application form for provisional home education please contact: Assistant Manager (Home Education): Ph: (02) 6205 9299 or email: det.ngso@act.gov.au
Registration
Registration for up to two years is provided following a home visit by an Authorised Person. For further information and to request a registration or registration-renewal visit please contact: Assistant Manager (Home Education): Ph: (02) 6205 9299 or email: det.ngso@act.gov.au
Annual report
Parents must provide an annual report about each child's educational progress. Annual reports are due by 31 December of each year. Exemplar templates of report options are available on request.
Please return Annual Reports to the Assistant Manager (Home Education): Email: det.ngso@act.gov.au or by post: GPO Box 158 CANBERRA ACT 2601.
