Work Experience
The purpose of Work Experience (WEX) is to provide guidance for students in the transition from school to working life in the community and to enable students to test tentative career choices against the realities of the workplace.
A WEX placement is a student’s short-term, unpaid participation in the work place as a learner and an observer. This forms part of a student’s broad career development and is not required to be linked to a specific course of study. Students gain insight into many aspects of the world of work but they do not displace employees.

Brick n Block' Step Out Program
Currently there is a severe shortage of qualified bricklayers in the Building Industry. There are also a decreasing number of students entering the industry as apprentices. This will result in future skills shortages.
The Step Out Programme allows students the opportunity to experience hands-on training within their school environment, by constructing a permanent project on the school grounds or for the local community.

Young Worker’s Guide
You can access the “Young People at Work in the ACT, What you need to Know" guide at http://www.dhcs.act.gov.au/ocyfs/young_workers#youngworkersguide
This guide is designed to help inform children and young people about their rights at work, the responsibilities of employers and who to contact for help or more information. Children and Young people have the right to be safe at work. If a child or young person is unsure about something they should raise their concerns with parents or carers or another adult they feel comfortable talking with.
