ACT Student Reporting
Schools in the ACT must comply with Departmental policies in relation to reporting student achievement and progress. The Department monitors the implementation of ACT student reporting policies, which includes the provision of plain English reports that provides comparative information about student achievement against their peer group and uses A-E grades.
Schools also provide a variety of strategies that support the involvement of parents and students in the reporting process.
A Plain English report
ACT government schools provide parents with plain English written reports on the achievement and progress of their children twice a year.
A common reporting scale
For each learning area or subject studied at school, students in years 1-12 will receive an A – E grade indicating the level of achievement the student has demonstrated in that learning area or subject. Details of descriptions of the grades can be found in the Reporting on student achievement and progress to parents and students policy. For example, a ‘C’ grade means the child is at the expected standard and that his or her learning is on track.
Information about a student’s strengths and areas for development
Parents will be provided with written information about a student’s strengths, as well as those areas in which the student needs to be further assisted or extended. Strategies to further assist the child’s learning will also be included.
Improved partnerships between home and school
Schools will develop their own procedures for the implementation of the policy and communicate these procedures to parents on enrolment or at the beginning of each school year.
