What to do

Children

To join in the Challenge you need to :

  1. Choose a book from the appropriate list. Remember 8 of the 12 books you read must be from the Chief Minister’s Booklist.
  2. Make sure you know the rules of the Challenge.
  3. Download and print a student reading record MS Word Document (34kb).
  4. Write all the details of the book you are going to read on the student reading record.
  5. When you have finished reading a book ask a parent, carer or teacher to initial your entry on your student reading record.
  6. When you have finished reading all 12 books and have recorded them, give the completed student reading record to your teacher who will give it to the school contact person for the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge.

Teachers

  1. Please check that a contact staff member from your school has registered your school MS Word Document (37kb) to participate in the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge for 2012. School Registration is to take place by 5 April.
  2. Copy a student reading record MS Word Document (34kb) for each student.
  3. Help them to understand the rules.
  4. Collect Student Reading Records from students who have successfully completed the Challenge. Give them to the contact staff member for your school who will collate them on the  School Reading Record MS Excel File (17kb) and the School Verification Form MS Word Document (38kb). The Principal is required to sign the form. The School Reading Record Summary should be emailed or faxed to the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge, Literacy and Numeracy Section on (02) 6205 9340 by 14 September, 2012. No entries can be received after this date.

Certificates will be delivered to schools in Term 4 for distribution to students.
