Students who scored below the national benchmark for literacy (reading or writing) or numeracy in years 3, 5 or 7 ACTAP testing of 2007, or are exempt from testing, are eligible for support from the Australian Government’s An Even Start – National Tuition Program 

Eligible students will receive at least 12 hours of individual literacy or numeracy support.

The program is managed by the Literacy and Numeracy Section, ACT Department of Education and Training. Tuition is valued at $700 and is available for the 2008 school year. Parents will have a choice whether they want their child’s school to organise and run the tuition or if they want to arrange to use an approved private tutor outside school hours. Private tutors can be arranged by contacting the Private Tuition Coordinator, Curriculum Corporation on 1800 076 331.
