Middle Years Numeracy (MYN) Project
In 2002-03 the Middle Years Numeracy Project
brought together teachers from ACT primary and high schools to explore numeracy across the curriculum.
The project set out to have the teachers:
- identify and explore the numeracy demands within and across all key learning areas
- investigate how these demands are currently being addressed in their classrooms
- begin to make judgements about student numeracy performance
- explore how these demands might be used to improve student learning in the KLA and to improve student numeracy
- develop some common understandings about numeracy as it applies to each KLA and to learning in general.
As part of The Middle Years of Numeracy Across the Curriculum Project the following resource was developed: MYNRP
. This resource provides research findings and teachers stories on the use of numeracy across the curriculum. Information on enriching mathematical understanding and learning in context is also provided.
The research partner for this project was John Hogan, whose previous work includes the Numeracy Across the Curriculum project with Murdoch University.
