Course Description
First Steps is an internationally recognised literacy resource and professional development program, effectively linking assessment to teaching and learning. First Steps Reading Second Edition has 80% new material. The goal of the First Steps Reading PD is for participants to become effective users of this resource. Participants will learn to use the Linking, Assessment and Teaching Book, the Reading Map of Development Book, and the Reading Resource Book. Participants will have several opportunities to plan a comprehensive reading program focusing on the four substrands; contextual understanding, conventions, use of texts and processes and strategies. There is also a CD Rom with several templates and assessment tools on it.
Targeted Audience
First Steps supports primary, middle school and high school teachers.
Workshop Options
This is a 12-hour PD, with 7 sessions of approximately 1.5- 2 hours each. Options include:
- 2 x 6 hour days
- 7 x 1.5 - 2 hour sessions
1 x 6 hour day with 3 x 1.5 - 2 hour workshops
