Teacher Scholarships

The Teacher Scholarships program is part of the provision for teacher professional learning under the ACT DET Teaching Staff Enterprise Agreement 2009 -2011 and the Professional Learning Guidelines, available on the Index intranet. The Teacher Scholarships program consists of two components: the Targeted Programs and Individual Scholarships. There is separate provision for principals through the ACT Principals' Association (ACTPA) and through distributions of funds to schools under the Principal Professional Learning Fund (PPLF). There are also separate study assistance provisions for ACT Government employees. Please refer to the A to Z listing on the DET intranet for details.

Applicants for teacher scholarships should email the application form to Professional Learning Section and should request principal endorsement to be sent to the section by fax. Links are provided below to application forms and principal endorsement forms for the respective teacher scholarships schemes.

Applications for these targeted and individual teacher scholarship programs will close at COB on Friday 18 November 2011. There will be an information session for prospective applicants on Wednesday 2 November 2011 at the Hedley Beare Centre for Teaching and Learning from 3.45 pm to 5.00 pm.

Targeted Scholarships

Targeted scholarships for teachers in 2012 will provide places in three areas:

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  • Educational Leadership  with a focus on Excellence and Enterprise
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

Certificate of Gifted Education (COGE) Teacher Scholarships

COGE is an intensive training program offered through the Gifted Education Research, Resource & Information Centre (GERRIC), at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). It is designed to equip teachers with skills to identify intellectually and academically gifted students in their schools and develop curricula and programs for students to further develop their potential. Participants, via on-line and/or face-to-face learning, work with a team of nationally and internationally renowned experts in the education of gifted and talented children, led by Australia’s leading researcher in gifted education, Professor Miraca Gross, AO.

Ten COGE Teacher Scholarships will be funded by the Education and Training Directorate. The contact person for Gifted and Talented (G&T) is:
