Learning Communities

Building learning communities is a key function of ACT Department of Education and Training that Professional Learning Section supports and facilitates, in collaboration with schools and other sections of the Department. The Department is itself a learning organisation, promoting professional learning in a wide range of delivery and participation modes. In turn, each school is a learning community, valuing and promoting the learning of students, staff and parents.

Communities of learners may be professional groups that informally meet to discuss their needs. They include professional associations. The umbrella organisation for teacher professional associations in the ACT is the Council of ACT Educational Associations (COACTEA External Link).

Communities of learners may also exist as virtual communities of learning through learning management systems such as MyClasses (EduNET Login required – for more information, contact your school), online forums, online journals, online meetings, social networking, Wikis and Blogs.
