Becoming a Registered Training Organisation in the ACT
The ACT Accreditation and Registration Council (ARC) is responsible for the process of recognising training organisations that have the capacity to deliver, assess and issue qualifications for nationally recognised training. It also quality assures the Vocational Education and Training system in the ACT and nationally. Once registered, a training provider is known as a ‘Registered Training Organisation’ (RTO).
Prospective training providers need to submit a completed application to the ACT Accreditation and Registration Council (ARC). The application is part of a nationally consistent process under the Australian Quality Training Framework 2007

ARC will consider the application, provide feedback and advise whether the registration process can proceed. For further advice please phone the ARC Secretariat on 6205 7091.
Extending your scope of registration
RTOs may apply to change their scope of registration (the qualifications/courses and/or units of competency delivered and assessed by the RTO) during the period registration by submitting an Extension to Scope application (EXTRTO-002)

Please note: Ensure that the application is signed by the person with legal responsibility for the registered training organisation.
- When received, ARC will conduct a risk assessment to determine how the application will be managed. Based on that assessment, your application may be audited by either desk or site-based audit, with or without the assistance of technical advice. If a site audit is required an ARC auditor will contact your organisation to discuss the details.
- The time to process the application will vary depending on whether an audit activity is required. If a site audit is required, a well prepared organisation should allow approximately three months for the process to be finalised. If a site audit is not required the process will take approximately one month.
- Do not start training delivery until your organisation has received formal written approval from the ARC.
