Effective Supervision of your Apprentice or Trainee

Workplace supervisors are critical to the success of the Australian Apprenticeships system.

Effective supervisors coach, mentor, and assist apprentices to become more independent and productive in the workplace. They are vital in developing apprentices and trainees to become valued members of the workforce.

Resources

To assist supervisors, a Supervisor’s Pack is available that comprises a range of resources including:

  • Supervising your Apprentice or Trainee booklet that provides workplace supervisors with suggestions on how to provide a better training environment for apprentices/trainees
  • Supervising your Apprentice or Trainee DVD, hosted by Scott Cam, that demonstrates how a supervisor can make workplace training more meaningful and enjoyable for both the supervisor and the apprentice/trainee
  • an ACT Australian Apprenticeships Charter for Employers and Australian Apprentices that explains their roles and responsibilities in the workplace.

Workshops

Workshops are a great way to support the use of the Supervisor’s Pack

Email tateconsultation@act.gov.au or phone 02 6205 7052 to arrange a workshop for your industry.

You can also download a copy of the Supervising your Apprentice or Trainee booklet.
