Enrolment of Non-Australian Citizens or Non-Permanent Residents in ACT Public Schools – Step by Step Process

Non-Australian citizens or non-permanent residents may enrol in ACT public schools, subject to certain conditions, which may include the payment of international student tuition fees. Some temporary visa holders may be eligible for a fee waiver. Please refer to the Enrolment Procedures for Temporary Visa Holders – Fact Sheet, to determine if you are eligible to apply for a fee waiver. For further information and background, please refer to the Enrolment of Temporary Visa Holder – Charing Policy.
If your visa subclass is on the Fact Sheet, please submit the documentation listed under your visa subclass by emailing ieu@act.gov.au or by fax on +61 2 62059239. Please ensure you provide your contact details, your residential address and the nominated school of enrolment.
If your visa subclass is not on the Fact Sheet, or if your application for fee waiver is unsuccessful, you will be required to pay international student tuition fees. Please complete and forward the 2011 Application Form for Dependants of Temporary Residents to ieu@act.gov.au or fax on +61 2 62059239.
Once your application is finalised the nominated school will be notified of your child’s status as an international fee paying student or fee exempt. The school will follow their enrolment process and may have additional requirements prior to enrolling your child in school. Please note that fee exempt students are only exempted from international student tuition fees, any other payments required by the school still apply.
For enrolment of dependants of temporary resident visa holders with a disability, please refer to Conditions of Enrolment and Admission in ACT Public Schools for Non-Australian Citizens or Non-Permanent Residents for further information.
The International Education Unit of the Education and Training Directorate accepts payment via credit card, eftpos, telegraphic transfer or bank cheque. Please allow sufficient time for bank cheques to clear.
