The ACT Government is committed to providing public school students with Information Communication Technology (ICT) that is fit for the learners of today.
The Government has also announced that all students from years 7 to 11 will receive a Chromebook device in Term 1 2018. Further information on this program is available here
Our students expect reliable access to learning from wherever they are and whenever they need it. They expect to:
- access real-world learning platforms that are easy to use and familiar to them, so they can learn, create, communicate and collaborate from anywhere
- connect to reliable high-speed internet, so they are connected to learning, their teachers and each other as a learning community
- use their own personal device of choice, so their access to learning is personalised and follows them wherever they go.
Our Online Services
The online services we provide enable our schools in partnership with parents to support our young people to be safe and productive online. We have achieved a balance by providing students with the technology and learning platforms they want to use, set up in a way that is safe and secure.
The Directorate's online learning platforms are provided in a one-stop-shop portal called 'The Digital Backpack'. The Backpack enables students to access their learning at school, at home and through the growing network of publically available Wi-Fi in the ACT and on their own device of choice.
Our 'SchoolsNET' Network
All ACT Public Schools benefit from one of the highest speed education networks in Australia called 'SchoolsNET'. Our schools are all connected to secure gigabit fibre broadband that is filtered and managed by ACT Government.
SchoolsNET is designed with connectivity and security in mind. Our students are provided secure SchoolsNET login credentials that enable them to log in to any school computer in any ACT Public School. Our students can also access our secure wireless network in any of our ACT Public Schools with the same SchoolsNET username and password and on their own device of choice. Our connectivity is simple, fast, safe, secure.
